Behind the Scenes

The import/export of horse meat

Here is a photo of horse meat being brought across the border from Laredo, Texas to Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. The animals where slaughtered in a Dallas/Ft. Worth area plant. The meat is brought back into the U.S. for export to Europe.

Brownfield Farm Director Cyndi Young took this photo during a trip to the border town where the carcasses are exported into Mexico for cheaper processing. The men in the picture work for SENASICA and SAGARPA. Those are the government agencies the inspect meat in Mexico, much like APHIS and USDA in the States.
