What’s the deal with E. coli in Romaine lettuce?
Why are E. coli outbreaks so hard to trace and is Romaine lettuce safe to eat again? Last month, the Centers for Disease Control issued a nationwide alert to not eat any romaine lettuce. More than 30 people were sick from a type of E. coli bacteria that was traced back to romaine, but it was unclear at the time where the outbreak originated. To help people figure out which bags of the leafy greens are safe to eat, the lettuce is getting a new label.
