5-bean pods?

Chris MayoChris Mayo is a Monsanto Roundup Ready 2 Yield technical development representative for eastern Kansas.  Tom Steever chatted with him during the July 10, 2009  Monsanto Technology Expo.

Mayo explains that the yield is higher because with genetic mapping, they have been able to identify positive yield zones in the DNA. In addition, Mayo explains, insertion technologies and selection technologies have added value to creating a Roundup Ready 2 Yield technology that yields more than it had in the past.

How much more?

Mayo asks his audiences, “Have you ever seen a 5-bean pod?” In the six months to a year that he has been asking that question, he has not had a person identified as seeing one other than in the Roundup Ready 2 Yield technolgy.

It yields more by adding beans per plant. When you add six bean per plant, Mayo explains, you’re adding 4 bushels per acre.
