Flies cost cattlemen more than a billion dollars annually

New Zealand dairy cows

Flies are a damaging pest on beef and dairy farms, costing farmers more than one billion dollars every year.  Fly control is important to the health and profitability of beef and dairy cattle.  Tom McBeth, Regional Sales Manager, Central Life Sciences tells Brownfield you need to start thinking about fly control at least 30 days before the last average frost date in your area.

McBeth said research shows that controlling the reproductive habitat of flies can reduce 60 – 75% of fly numbers. The main flies that cause the most dollar loss in this country are horn flies, face flies, house flies and stable flies.

McBeth tells Brownfield there is no “silver bullet” solution to fly control.  Because there are 2 basic different types of environments where these flies reproduce, Central Life Sciences offers 2 different types of products. ClariFly Larvicide and Altosid IGR are feed-through products that work by passing through the animal’s digestive system into manure, delivering the active ingredient where the flies lay their eggs.

Altosid IGR features an active ingredient specifically for the control of horn flies.  ClariFly Larvicide is used to control face, house, stable and horn flies.
