Working to meet farmers’ needs

2015 proved that timing can be one of the most important things to a farming operation.

Leland Hartstack, general manager TruHorizons says that was one of the things they took into consideration when building its new state-of-the-art grain storage and agronomic facility.  “We know that input of getting those inputs in seems to get smaller and smaller as acreages get bigger,” he says.  “We’ve got to get across those acres and time is of the essence and we’ve built everything about speed and really help that producer out.”

And on the grain side – he says the company wanted to meet growers’ needs as well.  “From a storage perspective we’re really able to hold a large majority of the crop that comes in and not shut down in the middle of harvest because we’re waiting on a train,” he says.  “We’ve got the space and the speed to keep us going.”

TruHorizons serves northern Indiana and is a joint venture between Cargill and Trupointe Cooperative. It has facilities in La Paz and Bremen and is in the process of building its third facility in Milford, Ind.  It is set to open in September 2016.
