Purdue releases ag talent research survey results

Programs ICONA new research survey from Purdue University studies talent and performance trends in agribusiness.

Michael Gunderson with the Center for Food and Agricultural Business tells Brownfield as more senior leadership in agribusiness looks to retire, performance management will become increasingly important.  “It would be short sided to think that you have to do all of your job all the way up to the up to the very last day that you retire instead of starting to share some of that responsibility with a person that you can help coach and make sure they’re ready to step into your shoes at 100 percent when you’re ready to be done.”

He says while many respondents of the Performance Management in Agribusiness Survey suggested that the performance management inside their organization was good at aligning to their personal goals, the biggest opportunity lies in communicating with poor performers.  “Perhaps the place we have an opportunity to improve is that sometimes folks inside of an organization don’t feel that poor performers hear the message that they need to improve performance.”

Gunderson says the center will be offering workshops in the fall to agribusinesses that want to improve performance management.
