17% of U.S. corn, 5% of soybeans planted

The USDA reports U.S. corn planting remains slower than average, but many producers were able to make at least some progress over the past week. Several states, especially in the northern and eastern Midwest, have yet to really make any kind of a start because of continued cooler, and in some cases, wetter than normal weather. As of Sunday, 17% of the crop is planted, compared to 32% a year ago and the five-year average of 27%. 3% of corn has emerged, compared to 8% last year and 6% typically this time of year.

5% of soybeans are planted, compared to 9% in 2017, but matching the normal pace.

33% of U.S. winter wheat is in good to excellent condition, 2% more than a week ago, and 19% of the crop has headed, compared to 41% a year ago and 30% on average.

10% of spring wheat is planted, compared to 30% last year and 36% usually in late April, because of weather issues in the northern Plains.
