36% of Michigan corn, 30% of soybeans rated good to excellent

Scattered rain showers helped corn and soybean conditions hold steady last week in Michigan.

The USDA says as of Sunday 36% of the state’s corn crop is in good to excellent condition. Three percent of the crop was silking.

Thirty percent of soybeans are called good to excellent with 23% of the crop blooming and just 1% setting pods.

Winter wheat condition declined to 21% good to excellent with 41% mature. Three percent of the crop has been harvested.

Fruit growers have started harvesting tart cherries and the peach harvest of early varieties was underway.

An increase in disease pressure was detected on the state’s vegetable crops, prompting producers to take steps to protect their produce.
