4.3 million acres accepted in CRP

Farm Service Agency (FSA) Administrator Jonathon Coppess announced on Tuesday, September 14 that USDA has accepted 4.3 million acres in the latest Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) sign-up.

“This means the expected national CRP enrollment beginning October 1, 2010 will stand at 31.2 million acres,” said the FSA Administrator. “It also leaves us with approximately 800 thousand acres that can be enrolled in continuous CRP sign-up and in the CREP sign-up throughout fiscal 2011.”

Local FSA offices will begin notifying those landowners with accepted contracts, those contracts will need to have all necessary signatures by September 30.

Enrollment highlights:

• 39th general sign-up, the first in 4 years

• 50,000 offers were received on more than 4.8 million acres

• The average rental rate in the latest enrollment is $46.03 per acre

• 83 percent of the acres offered were highly erodible acres

• 5,000 producers enrolled 43,000 acres enrolled as pollinator habitat

• 57 percent of expiring acres were re-enrolled nationwide
