56 groups ask Congress for GMO education dollars

BrownfieldAppImageFifty-six agricultural organizations, retail groups, and universities have asked Congress to budget three-million dollars next year to educate people about genetically modified food.

The October 5th letter to the leaders of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees says, “There is a tremendous amount of misinformation about agricultural biotechnology in the public domain.”  The groups say the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture are more able to help the public understand science and fact-based information about food.

The groups, including American Farm Bureau Federation, National Milk Producers Federation, and the National Grocers Association also asked committee leaders to oppose restrictions on ag technology and farmers’ access to modern agricultural tools.
