A quarter of Missouri’s corn is planted

Missouri farmers are continuing to make progress with planting.  USDA reporters say as of Sunday, 26% of the state’s corn is now planted and 1% has already emerged.  Eight percent of the soybeans, 35% of the rice, and 2% of the cotton is planted in Missouri. Soybeans and rice are both ahead of the five-year planting average.

There were just over six days suitable for fieldwork last week with very little rain and an average temperature off 59.4 degrees.  The northwest quarter of the state remains the driest.

Five percent of the state’s winter wheat crop has headed, with 11% of the crop in excellent shape, 64% good, and 23% in poor condition.
