Iowa corn planting advances to 39%

A week bookended by rain should benefit Iowa crops.

USDA’s latest weekly crop report says nearly 40 percent of the state’s intended corn acreage is planted, compared to 13 percent last week, 24 percent last year, and the five-year average of 28 percent.

A quarter of the soybean crop is planted, that’s four days faster than a year ago and five days ahead of normal.

There was severe weather that brought tornados and hail to parts of Iowa over the weekend, but the moisture did help boost the soil profile.
