Adding value is key to continued success

A farmer by trade, Kip Tom is also a businessman, an innovator, and an educator in the world of agriculture.   Tom is the managing member for Tom Farms in Kosciusko County, Ind.  He says for Indiana’s agriculture industry to remain successful – it needs to add value to the commodities produced in the state.  “I would certainly love to see not a single kernel of corn or a single bean whole – let’s add value to it here,” he says.  “The same thing goes for all protein producers – whether it is pork or poultry or folks in the egg business or beef – let’s try to add value to it here, too before we ship it out.”

Tom says with access to 67% of the nation’s population within 24 hours by truck, Indiana agriculture should leverage the strategic edge that it has.

Kip Tom was honored with the Lt. Governor’s AgriVision Award at this year’s Indiana State Fair.
