Auctioneer champion encourages interest in the industry

The 2016 World Livestock Auctioneer Champion encourages others to get involved in the industry.  Andy White, from Ashland, Ohio says while auctioneering can be fun, it is a serious business.

“There’s a large responsibility on or shoulders. We’re converting someone’s assets into cash. They’ve got one chance. You don’t get a re-write or a chance to do it again. We’ve got one chance and we have a responsibility to make sure that our producers and our clients are getting the maximum value for their assets,” says White.

White won the Livestock Marketing Association’s World Livestock Auctioneer Championship this past summer. He tells Brownfield he has one piece of advice for anyone who wishes to get involved in auctioneering.

“It’s practice, practice, practice. A major league baseball player practices eight to ten hours a day. If you want to be the best in our industry, there’s no difference. You need to practice eight to ten hours a day and your sellers deserve that from you,” says White.

White operates in northeast Ohio and facilitates sales at two livestock auctions. He also specializes in purebred cattle sales, real estate and equipment sales. White spoke with Brownfield at the National Association of Farm Broadcasters Convention in Kansas City Missouri.
