Barely half of South Dakota’s corn crop good to excellent

South Dakota growers are seeding winter wheat in parts of the state and are otherwise cutting silage and haying.  The USDA Agriculture Statistics Service says corn and soybeans are maturing normally. The corn crop is 52 percent good to excellent and is 18 percent mature.  Soybeans are 60 percent good to excellent and 45 percent of them are dropping leaves.  Sorghum is 54 percent good to excellent and 29 percent mature.  Alfalfa is only 24 percent good, none of it is excellent. The third cutting is 67 percent done.  South Dakota pastures are only 39 percent good to excellent.
