Beef and pork exports remain strong

U.S. beef and pork exports remain strong.

The U.S. Meat Export Federation reports that August was a solid month for both beef and pork exports.  Both easily outpaced the results of August 2009, with beef exports up 24 percent in volume and 43 percent in value and pork exports up nine percent in volume and 16 percent in value over last year.

On a per-head basis, beef exports equated to nearly 160 dollars per steer and heifer slaughtered in August, up from about 120 dollars in August 2009.  Pork export value, on a per head basis, was nearly 41 dollars in August, up from $34.50 last year.
