Better soil moisture helps South Dakota winter wheat

Improved soil moisture levels in South Dakota helped winter wheat.

The UDSA says 46% of the state’s crop is in good to excellent condition, compared to 19% good a year ago, with another 2% in poor shape, compared to 32% poor to very poor last year.

Nearly all of the state has adequate to surplus topsoil moisture and 86% has adequate to surplus subsoil moisture.

The USDA’s weekly crop progress reports resume April 1st.
