Biden’s climate advisor on race to deploy clean energy

President Biden’s climate advisor says seven federal agencies are racing to build on the administration’s unprecedented year of work moving clean energy forward, much of which is being done in rural areas.

Gina McCarthy tells Brownfield the agencies are taking actions offshore, advancing wind and solar projects on public lands and building out transmission lines.

“Which people may be concerned about but it is going to be a lifeline to drive clean energy which is going to lower consumer costs and we’re going to do this in a way that’s transparent and engaging and we’re very, very excited about it.”

She says the Department of Energy is coordinating a transmission deployment program – which will start by engaging communities.

“Especially our agriculture community. We do not want to do anything that would negatively impact our ability for farmers to farm, our ability to have good quality food.”

McCarthy says the administration is investing in electric vehicles while working toward a strong renewable fuels program through the EPA.

She says clean energy investments in the Build Back Better program which needs to cross the finish line are important, just like the much-needed investments in the bipartisan infrastructure law.
