Bill strengthens foreign ag investment review

A bipartisan group of Senators has introduced a bill to provide more protection from foreign acquisitions.

The Food Security is National Security Act gives food and ag officials permanent representation on the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States and gives the committee new food and ag criteria to consider when reviewing transactions.

Chairwomen of the Senate Ag Committee Debbie Stabenow of Michigan, a Democrat, along with Montana Democrat Jon Tester, and Iowa Republicans Joni Ernst and Chuck Grassley are co-sponsors.

The American Farm Bureau Federation and National Farmers Union support the bill.
