Cold, wet February challenges Iowa ag

Record snow fall and bitterly cold temperatures impacted Iowa for most of February.

The USDA says snow and ice limited livestock movement and long stretches of very cold weather led to increased hay feeding, tightening supplies and driving prices higher, while making calving more challenging.

Weather has also limited grain movement and kept fieldwork limited to manure spreading ahead of spring planting.

The USDA’s weekly crop progress reports resume April 1st.
