Concerns over ag appropriations bills

Senate Ag Committee Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow says the intent of the 2014 Farm Bill is compromised in cuts this week by the House Ag Appropriations Subcommittee. On Tuesday, House and Senate Ag appropriators marked up spending bills for Fiscal Year 2015.

National Farmers Union President Roger Johnson commended the committees for leaving Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) alone.

Stabenow says House subcommittee cuts to conservation and energy programs that passed with “wide bipartisan majorities” would be gutted and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission would be underfunded.  Johnson echoed Stabenow’s statement saying “appropriations bills must reflect the will of Congress and the letter and the spirit of those laws.”

The bills are not final and still have to travel through the process.
