Conservation funding available for Western Lake Erie Basin farmers

Farmers in the Western Lake Erie Basin can now apply for conservation funding to protect water quality in the region.

USDA’s Regional Conservation Partnership Program helps fund voluntary conservation practices that work to decrease nutrient loading in key watersheds.

Farmers across the region should sign up with their local Natural Resources Conservation Service to be eligible for 2024 incentives. The deadline to enroll in Indiana and Michigan is December 8th and Ohio farmers have until February 16, 2024.

The three states were awarded $7.8 million in 2021 to support efforts through 2027 as part of the partnership.

The Biden administration recently announced $1 billion for the 81 regional projects across the country supported by the Inflation Reduction Act and farm bill funding.
