Corn, beans growing fast for a southern Wisconsin farmer
While much of the Badger State is just starting to see corn emerge, a farmer in far southern Wisconsin says his corn is already three inches tall and could possibly make six inches by the end of the weekend.
Casey Kelleher farms about 35-hundred acres near Whitewater, Wisconsin with about 2/3rds of those acres planted with corn. He says, “Especially with these ’80s coming this weekend, and we got four-tenths of an inch of rain last night. She’ll pop pretty good again over the weekend.”
Kelleher tells Brownfield the corn looks great so far. “We had good emergence. It was dry when we planted it and we got an inch of rain on it right after we planted and it wasn’t a pounding rain, so it came through pretty good.”
And, Kelleher says soybeans are also up now and thankfully, none of them froze in the recent cold weather that hit much of the Midwest.
