Crop insurance protected in 2018 Farm Bill

Rural Community Insurance Services is applauding farm bill negotiators for protecting federal crop insurance.

RCIS government affairs representative Christy Seyfert says farmers need predictability and stability.

“With respect to crop insurance, we worked very closely with farmers and ranchers and other ag stakeholders this year to keep the most harmful crop insurance amendments out of the House and Senate-passed farm bills.”

She tells Brownfield those amendments would’ve negatively affected farmer profitability and private sector delivery.

“That’s us, that’s our agents.  Folks nationwide who are helping farmers and ranchers manage their risk.”

Crop insurance funding is slightly lower in the 2018 Farm Bill as the House and Senate Ag Committees worked to keep overall spending budget-neutral.
