Dayton signs order providing propane and diesel relief to Minnesota farmers
Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton signed an emergency order Thursday to address propane and diesel fuel shortages across the state.
The move temporarily relieves certain regulations pertaining to hours of service for motor carriers and drivers providing direct assistance in emergency relief efforts.
Dayton says Minnesota farmers have been challenged by unseasonably low temperatures and rainy conditions, and the order helps ensure diesel and propane are accessible for drying late-harvested crops.
Dayton had a chance to sign that order last week but didn’t because he didn’t feel we were in a “crisis” situation yet. Had he signed last week transporters could have been hauling propane all last weekend instead of parking their trucks while supply was being gobbled up.
