Dayton vetoes Ag Policy Bill

The Minnesota Soybean Growers Association says it’s extremely disgusted with Governor Dayton for vetoing the omnibus Ag Policy Bill.

CEO Tom Slunecka says he feels MSGA has compromised, but the Dayton Administration is unwilling to compromise with them.

MSGA president Michael Petefish says its clear the Governor is solely focused on his agenda and not the well being of Minnesota, accusing Dayton of thumbing his nose at bipartisan legislation.

With the 2018 Legislative Session ending Monday, Dayton had indicated he would veto the legislation because of a provision in the supplemental budget bill that reverts authority for soil losses back to the county level, not the Board of Water and Soil Resources.

The Soybean Growers point out the Ag Policy Bill included better access to the Beginning Farmer Tax Credit Program by clarifying eligibility requirements, as well as improvements to the Ag BMP loan program.
