Dicamba products now restricted use in South Dakota
The South Dakota Department of Agriculture (SDDA) has classified all dicamba-only products as restricted use pesticides (RUPs). Because it’s a state classification – not federal – product labels won’t display the restricted use legend. The list of more than three dozen affected products includes, among others, Banvel, Clarity and DiFlexx.
Applicators have to be certified to purchase and apply the products. Records of application must be kept for three years. In addition to state certification, the SDDA encourages applicators to take dicamba-specific training. Online training is available on the SDDA’s website.
Xtendimax, Fexapan and Engenia are on the list but are already classified Restricted Use Pesticides by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and have separate regulations for sale and use, including dicamba-specific training, which is required for applicators.
