Donation celebrates National Pork Month

Indiana Pork

October was National Pork Month.  And to celebrate, Indiana Pork in partnership with the Indiana State Department of Agriculture donated 7,500 pounds of ground pork to Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana.

The donation was made possible through the Make it a Meal promotion held during the Indiana State Fair.  The goal was to sell 30,000 meals during the Indiana State Fair’s 17 day run.  Ford tells Brownfield they exceeded that goal, making the 7,500 pounds donation possible.

She says it make sense to make the donation now – not just because it is a nice way to end National Pork Month, but because food banks are entering a time of year when high quality proteins come in high demand.  “Protein is such a needed food source,” she says.  “They get a lot of dry food items – so they really appreciate getting the protein.”
