Drought worsens in Missouri

Missouri Governor Mike Parson tells Brownfield state department heads have been meeting to determine what government agencies can do to mitigate effects of the worsening drought.  The U.S. Drought Monitor indicates a small part of Caldwell County in northwest Missouri has now advanced to D4, or exceptional drought, adding to farmers’ problems.

“They’re going to need water and they’re going to need feed for livestock and then your row crops are going to suffer,” Governor Parson told Brownfield Ag News Thursday at the Missouri State Fair.  “We’re looking at ways we might be able to help with the water situation, some of the things we can help with the row crop farmers, but you know honestly, the best thing for the state of Missouri is rain.”

There are only three counties in southeast Missouri that are not affected by drought.  The rest of the state is seeing varying degrees of dry weather.
