Dryness causes challenges for southern Iowa growers

A southwest Iowa farmer says dry weather has been one of his biggest challenges this growing season.

Duane Aistrope says some timely August rains have helped his crops, but… “Last year I had the best crop every in my life. And I think we are no where near that. We have a lot of tip back on our corn and kernels are really shallow.”

He tells Brownfield the jury is still out on soybeans. “It’s not going to be a great year for soybeans, but I do believe we’ll have an average crop.”

Aistrope farms near Randolph in Fremont County.
