Duffy confident farmers will be taken care of in farm bill

A Wisconsin Congressman says the Farm Bill conference committee is having difficulty reaching a compromise, but farmers should not worry.  Seventh District Republican Sean Duffy tells Brownfield, “I’m pushing to get a bill by the end of the month, but we don’t have major issues until we get to the end of the year, so there is some time in there.  I don’t want to use that time, but it’s not like we step off a cliff on October first.”

Duffy says House members are willing to compromise, knowing that passing a Farm Bill is vital.  “You’re going to see us make sure we’re taking care of our farmers.  No one wants to see our farmers fall off a cliff due to inaction in the House or the Senate.  That’s not right, and I think you’re going to see folks, they’ll be taken care of.”

Duffy says extending the current farm bill is likely if a compromise isn’t reached soon.

He says the House reforms to the SNAP program are still the major disagreement between House and Senate leaders.  Duffy says there are Republicans, Democrats, and Independents that support the reforms, which are designed to get more able-bodied Americans without young children into the workforce.
