Earl’s vie for AFBF Young Farmers in Agriculture Excellence

A young Michigan couple passionate about agriculture are finding ways to educate the public about modern food production.

NRCS district conservationist Seth Earl says he and his wife Lindsay grew up learning the value of farming from their families and they want to instill the same lessons in their children and local community.  “We live, breathe agriculture every single day even though we don’t farm for a living, we help out on the day to day operations of Lindsay’s family’s 500 cow dairy farm, it’s an opportunity for us to give back.”

Lindsay Earl, who works for Michigan Milk Producers Association, says they regularly look for ways to volunteer as advocates for the industry.  “We understand it’s important to promote agriculture and advocate about agriculture.  Being fourth-generation farmers, we’re in the industry every day and we understand there’s a lot of hardships out there and a lot of concerns from consumers, so we’re really trying to get out message out and share our story about agriculture.”

The Ludington couple believe the greatest challenge to agriculture is consumers’ lack of awareness of how food is produced and are currently planning a Miracle of Life booth for a community event and securing a ‘My American Farm’ kiosk for the local children’s museum.

The couple will represent Michigan next week during the American Farm Bureau Federation’s Young Farmer Agriculture Excellence competition.
