Early harvests underway in Michigan

Warm, wet conditions in Michigan continued to push crops toward maturity last week while soybean harvested started in early planted fields.

The USDA says the state’s corn crop condition is 46 percent good to excellent with 87 percent in the dough stage, 53 percent dented and 8 percent mature.  Corn silage harvest is 18 percent complete.

Soybeans are 96 percent setting pods, 35 percent dropping leaves and condition is 44 percent good to excellent.  Only one percent is harvested.

Dry Beans are 57 percent good to excellent with four percent harvested.  Sugarbeets are 65 percent good to excellent with eight percent harvested. 

Potato and apple harvest continues with recent rains beneficial for sizing.
