Elevating food and ag policy issues

A former U.S. Ag Secretary says food and agricultural policy needs more national attention.

Dan Glickman, co-chair of AGree, an organization representing ag and non-ag interests, says it’s time Presidential candidates recognize the importance of food and ag policy.

“It employs maybe 10-15% of the people of the United States, whether it’s on the farm, in the food industry, or supply chain,” Glickman said. “It often doesn’t get much attention in Presidential elections, I mean, I did hear the word ‘soybeans’ mentioned in the Fox Business Republican debate, but these are important issues and we think they deserve greater national attention.”

Glickman says AGree has identified immigration reform, risk management; research and innovation and conservation as priority areas.

Glickman served as Secretary of Agriculture from 1995 to 2001.
