Emergency Action Plan for livestock

A veterinarian with Merck Animal Health encourages livestock producers to make an emergency action plan a part of managing their farm.

Dr. Angela Baysinger says extreme weather events like flooding and blizzards can devastate herds.

“I think this year is going to reinforce the need for producers to plan ahead.”

She tells Brownfield Beef Quality Assurance principles can help when putting together an emergency action plan.

“It also reinforces that constant interaction between entities like the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association with the BQA program to help producers with their business, with the raising of the animals.”

A recent study by Colorado State University calculated the value of BQA Certification on beef operations at nearly $17 dollars per head.
