EPA urges comment on new clean water rule
The EPA urges agriculture to comment on its new Clean Water rule proposal, “We really encourage the stakeholders, particularly agriculture, to comment. Read the proposal, comment. Let us know what we got right. Let us know what we got wrong.”
Dave Ross, EPA’s Assistant Administrator for Water, tells Brownfield the goal with the new rule is simplicity, “Where landowners can know whether or not there’s a federal water on their land without having to hire expensive consultants and lawyers and go through that process. We don’t think it’s an appropriate use of resources to have federal regulators walking the back 40.”
Ross commends President Trump for withdrawing the “overreaching” WOTUS rule that this new rule would replace and says they took the time to listen to ag producers.
This morning, President Trump issued a proclamation to recognize all people in the ag industry on this National Ag Day.
Ross tells Brownfield he fully supports the proclamation which resonates with him, “I think one of the reasons why I’m here is to try to repair the relationship between agriculture and EPA and I’m thrilled to have a president that supports that.”
Ross encourages farmers and ranchers to comment on EPA’s proposed new Clean Water Rule that replaces the WOTUS rule and to get behind EPA’s new, “holisitic,” water quality initiatives.
