Fair season busy time for State Vet’s office

For State Veterinarian, Dr. Tony Forshey, fair season in Ohio is a busy time of year for his office.

“We do the drug testing at 88 county fairs and we have a few independent fair around, then of course the Grand Daddy of them all, the Ohio State Fair, so this is a very busy time for my staff in particular,” said Forshey. “As you know, this is all about food safety and we want to make sure the consumer is confident and we give them every reason to be confident, that these fair animals going into the food chain, that they are safe to eat and there’s a good, wholesome product there.”

The State Veterinarian says to help with the workload, students from the Ohio State Vet School are available to help during the Ohio State Fair.

“It gives them an exposure to what they’ll be doing in the future if they do a county fair, and educate them on the process and the food safety aspects and all the important things that go a long with that,” Forshey said.
