Farm electrical wiring is different

WPS wiringFarmers can experience proper electrical farm wiring through an interactive display at the Wisconsin Public Service Farm Show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Agribusiness market leader Corey Kuchta with Wisconsin Public Service tells Brownfield all Wisconsin utilities offer farm rewiring programs.  “If a farmer is upgrading any type of wiring, there is grant money out there to help do that and make sure it’s done correctly.”  He says, “Inspection is the final step, make sure that whoever is doing it does it up to code.”

Kuchta says if wiring is not done up to code it may lead to stray voltage and other problems for farmers.  “We’ve spent over $40 million dollars investing into upgrading farm wiring.”  He says, “It’s really turned out great because we’ve improved a lot of wiring out on farms, made farms safer for preventing barn fires, preventing electrical shocks, and lowering stray voltage levels which is a win for everybody.”

Kutchta says there are also incentives and rebates available to farmers to improve energy efficiencies.
