Farm safety a top priority during delayed harvest
A COUNTRY financial representative says farm safety is especially important as farmers approach a delayed harvest.
Loss Control Supervisor Eric Vanasdale tells Brownfield farm safety is important year-round, but this year’s harvest deserves some extra precaution.
“Especially this year we are going to have such a strange and stressful harvest with the growing conditions we had and commodity prices. People are really stressed, and accidents happen when you rush or when things break down and you take shortcuts.”
Vanasdale reminds farmer to take breaks, have healthy meals and get plenty of rest.
“The crop is going to be there tomorrow. If you need to quit at 9pm instead of midnight, get a little more rest so you are better prepared the next day.”
He says they have partnered with Illinois farm Bureau to provide a video with farm safety tips that will be used during Farm Safety and Health week September 15th – 21st.
Brownfield interviewed Vanasdale at the 2019 Farm Progress Show in Decatur, IL.
