Farmer says fungicide protected crops

A central Indiana farmer says it has been a challenging but rewarding growing season.

Mike Beard raises corn, soybeans, and hogs about an hour north of Indianapolis.

“It has been rewarding in the fact that the yields were not as discounted from the later planting as I thought they would be,” he says.

But, he says, continued rainfall has been problematic and delayed harvest an entire month.

He tells Brownfield fungicide has protected his corn crop’s stalk quality during the prolonged harvest season.

“Maybe we have avoided some of that damage from late moisture and late harvest because the stalk is still strong and viable,” he says.

Beard says it’s a different story for soybeans. He says there is discoloration in his soybeans and he hasn’t been able to get into the fields to get a closer look yet.

He says harvest is about 70 percent complete for soybeans and about 40 percent for corn.

He hopes to get back into fields later this week.
