Farmer says harvest is underway and yields are above average so far

Harvest is underway for Southern Indiana farmer Ben Kron.

“Overall, yields are somewhat above average, but not what we were quite expecting,” he says. “I think we were expecting another 10-20 bushel over what we’re actually getting.”

He tells Brownfield yields are looking good, but there is variability in some fields because of rainfall this summer.

“Through the summer we had a few big rains and we’re starting to see that may have hurt us a lot more than we thought it did,” he says. “We have more wet holes in fields than we realized.”

Kron grows corn and soybeans in Evansville, Indiana.
