Focus on Energy provides incentives for farmers

Bill PlamannWisconsin’s Focus on Energy program is helping farmers become more energy efficient.

Energy Advisor Bill Plamann tells Brownfield they are the Wisconsin utilities’ statewide energy efficiency and renewable resource program.  “Our standards are 1.5 to 10 years of payback.”  He says, “If it’s over 10 years, we try to encourage maybe a different technology, if it’s under a year and a half, we’re not able to give incentive because the customer probably should have did it already.”

Plamann says springtime before planting is their busiest season to make energy improvements.  “What we’re doing right now is lighting, some frequency drives, some irrigation systems with new motors and frequency drives, some new barns and additions.”

Plamann spoke with Brownfield at the recent Wisconsin Public Service Farm Show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
