Global uncertainties impacting ag and food sectors

The director of a non-profit representing the agriculture and food industries in Minnesota is watching how conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East play out.

Tamara Nelsen with AgriGrowth says there are geopolitical and supply chain implications.

“Fertilizer and other inputs for our industry, other (impacts too like) competition we maybe would normally have with Ukraine for example on grain. Now we’re probably facing some shortages in some areas.”

She tells Brownfield there are also climate concerns.

“With the water levels not only here on the Mississippi but also down in Brazil, you’ve really got a lot of uncertainty.”

Nelsen says farm bill negotiations seem far from over and that also creates challenges for the food and agriculture sectors.

She says these are some of the issues that will be discussed during the AgriGrowth Ag & Food Summit November 9th at the Minneapolis Convention Center.
