Government shutdown overlapping final days for farmer sign ups

Farm Service Agency offices are now closed until the government shutdown is resolved which has put some farmers in limbo.

If producers were able to sign up for the Market Facilitation Program by December 28, they will continue to receive payments.

Farmers that haven’t signed up yet will need to wait until the government is reauthorized to enroll in the program.

Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue has set January 15th as the sign-up deadline which might be extended to compensate for the disruption.
