Grassley says he is encouraged by NAFTA breakthrough with Mexico

Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says he is hopeful that the new agreement with Mexico will encourage Canada to reach a revised NAFTA soon.

“If they don’t then we’re going to have a bilateral agreement with Mexico and I don’t think Canada wants that,” he says.

He says new auto manufacturing rules should be of interest to auto industry workers in Canada…

“We’ve raise the level of domestic content of the three countries- 75% domestic content compared to the NAFTA 62.5%,” he says. “And then 45% of the car has to be made by people who are making at least $16 an hour.”

Grassley says he is pleased by the progress that two of the three NAFTA countries have made so far.

President Trump has said that trade negotiations with Canada will resume soon.
