Grassley seeks clarification on disaster programs

Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley is asking the USDA to clarify for producers the eligibility requirements for application to the Livestock Forage Disaster Program.

Grassley says that he has heard from concerned farmers who are frustrated with the program.

“According to some producers, there’s not even agreement at the Farm Service Agency offices regarding which counties are eligible for the Livestock Forage Program—and the payments connected therewith—for the year 2012 in Iowa,” he says.

Grassley has written Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack asking for clarification on that and other issues.

“Some simple direction from USDA and communication within FSA can put to rest the concerns that farmers may have,” Grassley says.
