Harvest begins in southern Wisconsin

A south-central Wisconsin farmer says harvest is just getting underway in his area.
Doug Rebout, who raises corn, soybeans, and cattle in Rock County, tells Brownfield, “We started harvesting soybeans yesterday and so far, we are very pleasantly surprised. If everything continues this way, we could have record yields for soybeans.”
He says he’s also optimistic about his corn yields.
“All the corn is standing really good from what we’ve flown over with drones.” He says, “We have not seen any corn that has gone down yet.”
As of Sunday, 8% of the state’s corn is harvested, which is 1% behind the five-year average, with 59% in good to excellent condition, and 72% mature. However, only 11% of soybeans are harvested, which is 16% behind the average pace. Fifty-eight percent of Wisconsin soybeans are in good condition with 88% dropping leaves.
