Harvest rolling in southwest Iowa

Harvest is rolling in one of the few parts of Iowa not suffering from significant drought.

Jeff Jorgenson grows corn and soybeans near Sidney in the southwest corner of the state and says they received 16 to 20 inches of rain during the growing season.

“We really did get some rains that most of the state of Iowa and a lot of the Midwest did not get.”

He tells Brownfield most farmers in the area started harvest within the last seven to ten days.

“It’s funny, there’s soybeans that are green and then the next field will be brown and looks like they’re not far from being harvested. And corn variability is from 15 to 17 percent moisture up into the 20’s, so variable as always.”

Jorgenson is just starting soybean harvest and describes early yields as good but not record-breaking.
