Harvest slowed by moisture in parts of Wisconsin

Weather improved, but wet fields and high grain moisture slowed Wisconsin’s harvest last week.

USDA officials say just over four and a half days were suitable for field work, but many areas continue to struggle with saturated soil.

As of Sunday, USDA reporters say 24% of corn for grain was harvested and the average moisture level was 21%. 96% of corn for silage is in. The corn crop is overall 85% good to excellent condition.

There are scattered mold reports in soybean fields, but yields are very good in most areas. 47% of the beans are harvested.

Potato harvesting is catching up, as 92% of the crop is now in, about a week behind last year. Nearly all alfalfa is in, and the cranberry harvest is about half finished.

About 70% of winter wheat is planted, and around 23% of fall tillage is already finished.
