Idaho farmer wins national wheat yield contest

A farmer from Idaho has won the National Wheat Foundation’s National Yield Contest.

Rick Pearson hit more than 211 bushels per acre on an irrigated farm in Twin Falls County in the south-central part of the state.

The high achiever for non-irrigated winter wheat is northwest Oregon producer Tom Duyck with a yield of just over 191.

Foundation Board president Wayne Hurst says for the last two years the contest has included a quality component, which has led to more applicants and diversified the candidate pool.

The winners will be recognized during the 2020 Commodity Classic in San Antonio.
